For the 2001-02 season – a decade ago – the Whiteoak Wildcats boys basketball program was the best in the region, reaching the State Final Four, using a team-minded philosophy that earned them more than 20 victories, numerous trophies and a lasting legacy that will not be forgotten in the Mowrystown and Bright Local community.

In their 21st game of the season, the first of the postseason, the Fairfield Lady Lions perhaps played their best game of the year. Scoring at least 11 points in each quarter, the Lady Lions advanced to the sectional semifinals with a 52-36 win Monday against Franklin Furnace-Green.

Lynchburg-Clay senior Karen Hilt recently signed her Division I Letter of Intent to play women's soccer next fall at Morehead State University.
