Lions lose in extra innings to Ripley

RIPLEY — The Fairfield Lions battled and battled but just couldn't score any runs, and finally it was the Ripley Blue Jays who ended the Southern Hills League game, scoring a walk-off run in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 1-0 league win over the Lions, Tuesday at RHS.
The winning run scored when Ripley's Brad Kirschner reached the bases on a dropped third strike on a wild pitch with one out. Kirschner moved to second on a base hit by Tommy Ramsey and scored when a ball hit by Houston Brown rolled under a glove at third base into left field, allowing Kirschner to score from second base for the walk-off win.
For the game, FHS committed four errors.

The Lions had opportunities to score runs, but in the first inning, they had a runner thrown out at the plate on a throw from third base. In the fifth inning, the runner left the bases early, as the inning ended with the Blue Jays tossing the ball to second base for the out, with FHS not tagging up before taking off to third base.
Earning the pitching win was Kirschner, who pitched a complete eight-inning shutout for the Blue Jays. He allowed no runs on three hits and one walk, while tallying 11 strikeouts on 107 total pitches.
The loss went to Joey Wilson, who pitched 7 1-3 innings. Wilson allowed one unearned run on five hits and one walk. He finished with nine strikeouts on 117 pitches.
Leading the Lions at the plate were senior Kyle Carson at 2-for-3 and Wilson at 1-for-2 with one walk.
