During its January meeting Thursday morning, the Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors voted unanimously to expand postseason tournament divisions in track and field and cross country.

A last-second sequence of events where defensive pressure by Logan McIntosh, Quentin McIntosh and Caleb Barrera, followed by a last-second basket at the buzzer, led to the Fairfield Lions defeating the Eastern Warriors 44-42 Tuesday night at Grandle Gymnasium in Leesburg.

Trailing going into the fourth quarter, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats outscored the Fairfield Lady Lions 19-11 in the final eight minutes to earn the Southern Hills Athletic Conference win, 53-47 at WHS.

At the inaugural New Year’s Hardwood Classic held Saturday at the Southern State Community College’s Patriot Center, Fairfield sophomore Brody Smith put on an impressive showing, including a second-half run of scoring 19 consecutive Fairfield points en route to a 53-30 win for the Lions.

The third annual Chad Hodson Classic was held Saturday afternoon at Fairfield High School’s Grandle Gymnasium to honor and celebrate the life of Chad Hodson and his message of having the “ultimate teammate.” 

The Fairfield Lions had to battle for their Southern Hills Athletic Conference win on Friday night against the Whiteoak Wildcats to start the 2025 calendar year.
