Fairfield wins 13th game of year

BLANCHESTER — The Fairfield Lady Lions won for the 13th time of the season on Monday, winning a non-league game against the Blanchester Lady Wildcats, 11-1 at BHS.
FHS starting pitcher Lauren Larrick scattered five hits and struck out 14 Lady Wildcats hitters, and Whitney Hanenkrat led from the plate, blasting her fourth home run of the season in the first inning with a runner on to give the Lady Lions the only runs they would need.
The Lady Lions (10-0, 13-5) played errorless softball, breaking a 3-1 game wide open with eight runs in the top of the sixth inning.
But they got all the runs needed in the first inning.
With one out in the top of the first inning, Shelby Smithson singled to right centerfield. Hanenkrat homered just inside the right field foul pole to give the Lady Lions a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Lions increased their lead to three runs with a run in the top of the second inning. Halie Chain (2-for-3, two doubles, three runs, one RBI) and Kaitlin Evans drew walks in the inning, and Courtney Huff drove in Chain with a single to centerfield.
Blanchester scored their lone run in the bottom of the third inning.
The game broke open in favor of the Lady Lions in the top of the sixth inning with the aforementioned eight-run inning.
[[In-content Ad]]Chain led off the inning with a double to the gap in right-centerfield. Taylor Butler and Evans loaded the bases after being hit by pitches. Huff (1-for-3, one run, two RBI) drew a bases loaded walk to score Chain.
Smithson (two runs, one RBI) hit a ground ball to right side, with Butler beating the throw to the plate. Evans scored on a wild pitch. Hanenkrat walked to load the bases, and Larrick (1-for-2, sacrifice bunt, sacrifice fly, one RBI) drove in Huff with a sacrifice fly to deep left field.
Both Smithson and Hanenkrat (1-for-2, home run, two runs, two RBIs) moved up on the throw to the plate, and Sirenity Smith drove in Smithson and Hanenkrat with a single to right field. Chain drove in Smith with her second double of the inning, this time to the gap in left centerfield. Cynnamon Sova-Davy completed the scoring with an RBI single to right-centerfield.
Larrick slammed the door on the Lady Wildcats, retiring six of the last seven batters she faced in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, all by strikeout.
FHS will take their 22-game SHL winning streak on the road Tuesday as they travel to Ripley.
