Hillsboro sweeps Huntington Invitational

CHILLICOTHE — The 2012 Huntington Invitational may have been hosted by Huntington High School, but it was the HHS of Hillsboro High School who dominated the event, as both the boys and girls track & field teams won their respective meets Tuesday, with the boys scoring 151.50 points and the girls scoring 183.50 points for the wins.
In the boys meet, HHS outscored second-place Southeastern by 25 points, and the girls of HHS won 56.50 points over second-place Zane Trace.
HHS totaled 15 first-place finishes between the boys and girls events.
In the girls events, first-place finishes included a win in the 4x800-meter relay with the team of Cheyney Myers, Bailey Patton, Alissa Hauke and Hannah Opst finishing with a time of 11:13.05, .37 second ahead of second place in the event.
Leah Pence followed with a first-place finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.10, and Hannah Kibler finished first in the 100m dash at 13.22.
In the girls 4x200m run, the relay team of Opst, Autumn Hacker, Brooke Smith and Kibler won with a time of 1:53.14. The 4x100m relay team of Pence, Taylor Stanforth, Smith and Kibler won with a time of 52.81.
Opst won the 800m run at 2:38.51, and Kibler was the winner of the 200m dash with a time of 27.12. The 4x400m relay was won by the HHS team of Stanforth, Hacker, Myers and Opst at 4:32.27.
Pence won the pole vault event with a height of 9-00.00.
As for the boys team, their victories included a win in the 4x800m relay with a team consisting of Wyatt Gleadle, Collin Rothwell, Michael Theobold and Jarrod Hart finishing with a time of 8:45.03.
Hart then won the 1600m run with a time of 4:34.32, and Theobold won the 400m dash at 53.47.
David Abernathy was the winner of the 300m hurdles with a first-place time of 43.74, and Hart won again, this time in the 800m run at 2:03.74.
HHS won the 4x400m boys relay with a time of 3:38.43 with the team of Theobold, Abernathy, Rothwell and Hart.
Final team standings included in the girls: 1, Hillsboro, 183.50; 2, Zane Trace, 127; 3, Paint Valley, 120; 4, Southeastern, 78; 5, Huntington, 74.20; 6, Adena, 36; and 7, Clay, 23.
In the boys, final team standings were: 1, Hillsboro, 151.50; 2, Southeastern, 126.50; 3, Zane Trace, 117; 4, Paint Valley, 96; 5, Adena, 83; 6, Huntington, 63; and 7, Clay, 16.

Pence won the pole vault event with a height of 9-00.00.
