Hillsboro 8th graders split doubleheader at Southeastern

On a cold, windy Sunday afternoon at Southeastern High School, the Hillsboro eighth graders continued their winning ways in the first game of a doubleheader with hot bats, keen eyes and solid base-running to earn a 13-4 victory.
Nathan Goolsby continued his dominance over opposing hitters from the mound, striking out six, only allowing one hit, five walks and four unearned runs to pick up his fourth win of the year in four tries.
Wyatt Condo was 2-for-3 at the plate. Ryan Hagan had a single and three walks, scoring all four times. Also for Hillsboro, Goolsby doubled and walked, Travis Carter doubled, Ethan Adkins singled and Chase Colliver walked and scored twice.
Condo threw the final frame, giving up one hit, walking one and having no strikeouts.
[[In-content Ad]]In the second game, Hillsboro's bats turned as cold as the weather, as they suffered their first loss of the season, 7-3.
In the loss, Condo and Goolsby each went 2-for-3 with a double and a single, picking up the only four hits in the game for the young Indians.
From the mound, Jesse Walker started the game in impressive fashion, retiring the first three hitters in order. The next three innings, however, proved to be the demise of the Hillsboro squad, as Southeastern plated five runs on four hits, two walks, two hit batters and a couple of defensive miscues.
Dylan Rhoads threw well in relief for Hillsboro, striking out one, giving up two hits, one walk and two runs.
Hillsboro will close out the season against their cross-county rivals at Greenfield on Sunday.
