    Greenfield man to proceed to trial after withdrawing plea on charge of unlawful sexual misconduct with a minor

    A Greenfield man will proceed to trial after withdrawing his plea on a charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a felony of the third degree.
     Gilbert Stonerock, 35, pleaded guilty to the charge on Jan. 7, and was scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 17, according to court documents from the Highland County Common Pleas Court.

    Committee votes to withdraw home-seller inspection legislation; all homes subject to inspection beginning in March
    The utilities committee of the Hillsboro City Council has voted to recommend the full council "withdraw from consideration" an ordinance that sought to require inspections of property at a point of sale regarding infiltration or overflows into the sanitary sewer lines.

    2011-12 deer hunting proposals made to Ohio Wildlife Council
    One change was proposed to the deer hunting regulations for 2011-12, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. The proposed change is to move Fayette County from Deer Zone B to Zone A.

    Fire destroys Petersburg structure

    A fire swept through this Petersburg home in the early morning hours Saturday. Hillsboro Fire and Rescue responded to the fire, along with several other departments on mutual aid. Further information was not immediately available.

    Oak Ridge fire destroys home; multiple fires across county

    No injuries were reported in a structure fire on Oak Ridge off of state Route 247 Friday afternoon, but damages are estimated in excess of $350,000, and one family has been left without a home. 

    In addition to the structure fire, there were multiple brush fires across Highland County Friday afternoon according to Hillsboro Fire and Rescue.

    Coonrod files notice of appeal

    Wesley Coonrod has filed documents in the Pickaway County Clerk of Courts Office, seeking an appeal on his convictions of manslaughter.

    Coonrod's attorney Eric J. Allen, of Columbus, who was appointed by the court to represent Coonrod on Feb. 9, filed the notice of appeal Friday.

    As spring winds pick up and field and brush fires become a hazard for area property owners, a repurposed former military vehicle will be leading first response.
     Through the Federal Excess Personnel Property/Volunteer Fire Assistance, a program geared toward providing assistance to fire associations with populations less than 10,000 Hillsboro Fire and Rescue was able to acquire a brush truck.

    Greenfield receives funds for waterline extension project
    The Greenfield City Council has received a grant for $205,000, and a $205,000 no-interest loan to be applied toward a waterline extension project at North Street and North Eighth Street.
     Nathan Davis of the Rural Community Assistance Partnership addressed council in July regarding funding scenarios for the project. He gave them two funding situations, with various levels of repayment for the city.

    Solar energy project could save thousands for HCS
    A green energy project being considered by the Hillsboro City Schools has the potential to save the district more than $53,000 over a 23-month period, with the potential for more savings in electricity in future years.
     The Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education, during their monthly meeting Wednesday, discussed the proposed installation of solar panels on the hill behind Hillsboro High School/Middle School.

    Multiple county units battle field fire
    Approximately 9-10 acres were damaged during a field fire off Hopkins Lane Wednesday afternoon.
     According to Hillsboro Fire and Rescue, the department received a call at approximately 2:28 p.m. Wednesday with a report that 3-4 acres were on fire.
