Local 3-on-3 basketball tournaments raise funds for area schools; 3 upcoming events planned

With the conclusion of the 2026 Festival of the Bells Basketball Tournament earlier this month, Tournament Director Larry Scruggs provided information about the event and other upcoming basketball tournaments where all proceeds will be donated to the Hillsboro and Williamsburg basketball programs. 

Some other basketball tournaments that are upcoming include: 

• 3v3 Basketball Tournament at Williamsburg High School on Saturday, Aug. 1. 

• Leesburg Festival 3v3 Basketball Tournament at the Leesburg Courts near the fire building on Saturday, Aug. 8. 

• Labor Day 3v3 Basketball Tournament on Sunday, Sept. 6 at the Highland County Fairgrounds (hosted by the Hillsboro Lady Indians).

The Festival of Bells for the past five years has seen 100 percent of the proceeds donated to Hillsboro Lady Indians basketball program and Williamsburg girls basketball program with the help from the coaches and players running the games, keeping score and volunteering in general, said basketball tournament director Scruggs. 

“From all the tournaments I run, we have been able to give all the proceeds from Festival of Bells, Leesburg Festival, Williamsburg 3v3 and the Highland County Fair 3v3, which is over $14,000 in five years,” Scruggs said.

Below is a breakdown of the proceeds donated to the girls basketball program: 

Festival of the Bells:
2022: $1,800
2023: $2,320
2024: $2,020
2025: $1,760
2026: $1,880

Leesburg:
2023: $300
2024: $830
2025: $610
2026: TBA

Highland County Fair:
2024: $1,100
2025: $900
2026: TBA

Williamsburg:
2025: $660
2026: TBA
