District 9 Drivers Battling Blowing, Drifting Snow

Chillicothe – All available crews in Ohio Department of Transportation - District 9 are working this morning to clear routes and keep traffic moving.
While crews’ efforts have focused on plowing during the overnight and early morning hours, forces are now applying materials to routes where snow has begun to break apart and where there is little or no blowing snow.
The district’s four-lane routes are beginning to become clear in the driving lane with areas of wet pavement and slush; the passing lanes are still partly snow covered. With snow continuing to fall and intermittent wind gusts, primary two-lane routes and secondary routes in Pike, Jackson, Scioto and Lawrence counties are partly snow covered.
Wind gusts are expected to continue throughout the day, particularly in the northern and western portions of the district. Blowing and drifting snow is covering roads in northern Adams and Brown counties, western Ross County and much of Highland County, and drivers in these counties are reporting numerous routes to continue to be snow covered or partly snow covered.
Pavement is also slick, and ice is likely to form, particularly on bridges and overpasses and on pavement that is clear and wet.
Motorists are reminded to continue using additional caution throughout this winter storm, and to be especially cautious when traveling in curves and over bridges, which are likely to freeze more quickly than the roadway. It also important to note that visibility can be reduced significantly during inclement weather, and travel conditions can change from mile to mile and minute to minute.
