  • SSCC cosponsoring Ag-LINK program seminar for farmers
    The southwest Ohio farming community is invited to an Ag-LINK Program seminar to be held 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, in the Appalachian Gateway Center on Southern State Community College’s South Campus, 12681 US Route 62, Sardinia. This program originally was scheduled to take place Feb. 9 but was rescheduled due to inclement weather.
  • Financial Aid Awareness Month declared
    Governor Ted Strickland has declared February 2010 as “Financial Aid Awareness” month in conjunction with the Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric Fingerhut’s endorsement of the annual College Goal Sunday event in Ohio.
  • Former area resident slated to present at state conference
    Darla (Snoddy) Moore, a teacher at West Liberty-Salem Schools, has been elected by the Ohio Council of Teachers of English Language Arts (OCTELA) to speak at the organization's State conference in March.  OCTELA was founded in 1957 as a professional organization promoting English Language Arts prekindergarten through college.  OCTELA is the only Ohio affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).

  • HHS student earns $10,000 scholarship to Wilmington College
    Dylan P. Dobbs of Holladay Road, Hillsboro is the recipient of a $10,000 Wilmington College Achievement Award. The award distribution amount, which ranges from $10,000-$14,000, is based on the cumulative high school grade point average and ACT/SAT composite score. It is awarded upon acceptance to Wilmington College, regardless of need.
  • SSCC opens new Office of Advising and Retention Services
    The Advising and Retention Services main office opened mid-November on the college’s Central Campus in Hillsboro, with satellite offices on Fayette Campus in Washington C.H., North Campus in Wilmington and South Campus in Sardinia.
  • WC's Food Symposium to highlight 'Eat Healthy/Grow Responsibly'
    Hearkening the College’s heritage in agriculture and the current Grow Food, Grow Hope initiative, Wilmington College is sponsoring a food symposium April 22 titled “Food and Farming for the Future: Eat Healthy/Grow Responsibly.” While program details are evolving, the daylong event — purposely scheduled to coincide with Earth Day — will feature several presenters on such topics as Earth-friendly methods of food production, fresh and green food alternatives, and feeding the world’s growing population.

    Guest speaker Mary Ayres will present “Choose to Live” 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Southern State Community College’s South Campus, 12681 U.S. Route 62, Sardinia.
  • St. Mary Catholic School celebrates 10th anniversary
    St. Mary Catholic School is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and its pupils and staff are commemorating the beginning of this landmark year by recognizing Catholic Schools Week. Hillsboro Mayor Dick Zink visited St. Mary's on Jan. 21 to present the school with a proclamation for Catholic Schools Week

  • WC's Athletic Training Quiz Bowl team wins state championship
    Wilmington College’s Athletic Training Quiz Bowl team proved last year’s success was no flash-in-the-pan sensation when it repeated as the Ohio champion in the state competition held Jan. 16.
