When it’s October, it’s time to Think Pink!

In recognition of breast cancer awareness month, the community is invited to an Oct. 11 “Volley for the Cure” match at Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The Lady Patriots will take on Clark State Community College at 6 p.m. in the Patriot Center.

The SSCC Athletic Department is hosting the fundraising event and proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Affiliate, working to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

In addition to the Oct. 11 match with CSCC, the Lady Patriots will further their fundraising goal by challenging a team of Southern State faculty and staff members. That game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the Patriot Center.

Beginning the week of Oct. 3, the SSCC Athletic Department will be selling Volley for the Cure fund-raising items—t-shirts, sweatshirts, backpacks—in the lobby of Southern State’s Central Campus.

The Lady Patriots are coached by Bruce Davis and Nicole Melson and include players Monique Burns (graduate of Hillsboro H.S.), Keri Dobbs (Hillsboro H.S.), Kari Fannin (Whiteoak H.S.), Jessica Geiger (Hillsboro H.S.), Kelsey Juillerat (Hillsboro H.S.), Skye Lucas (Whiteoak H.S.), Courtney Rufener (West Union H.S.), Ashley Sanders (Hillsboro H.S.) and Jenika Watson (Hillsboro H.S.)
