    The “Your Place” program at Southern State Community College assists individuals-in-transition—single parents, displaced homemakers, single pregnant women and anyone who needs to develop new skills in order to earn a livable wage due to divorce, disability, unemployment or underemployment—in achieving their goals of education and/or employment.

    HHS National Honor Society inducts new members
    On Friday, Nov. 20, a group of students was pleasantly surprised to find their families cheering and applauding them as the group was led into the gym.  After weeks of waiting, the students’ hopes were finally confirmed: they had been chosen as the 2009 inductees to Hillsboro High School’s National Honor Society.

    Hillsboro Christian Academy is preparing for their dinner theater production, "Christmas at Uncle Phil's Diner," Dec. 18 and 19 at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene.     Fairfield Middle School students visit Ohio statehouse
    The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board and Capitol Square Foundation welcomed Fairfield Middle School from Leesburg to the Ohio Statehouse on December 3.   The school was the recipient of a school bus transportation grant.  Seventy students toured the Ohio Statehouse and Ohio Statehouse Museum as part of their trip to Columbus.

          The “Leveling the Playing Field” marketing and business fair will be held 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, in the Appalachian Gateway Center on Southern State Community College’s South Campus, 12681 U.S. Route 62, Sardinia. The event is sponsored by Southern State and the chambers of commerce of Adams, Brown and Highland counties.

    Leesburg Library readies for holiday programs, events
    Christmas greetings from all of us here at the Leesburg Library! We hope you will be able to join us for some of our festive December programs. Our Knit Together group will meet on Dec. 3 and 17 from 5:30-7 p.m. Bring your current project and join us for some conversation and knitting. The Leesburg Library Merry Money Store will be open from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Dec. 5. Please bring your child and their Merry Money during your pre-assigned shopping time to purchase gifts. The elves will be here to assist your children with their Christmas shopping while parents can enjoy browsing the library and munching on some holiday refreshments. Dawna Jo Kiesling from the Highland County Extension Office will also be here from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Dec. 5 to share tips on “Gifts from the Kitchen.”
