Milligan, Jackson named HHS Business Cooperative Top Achievers

Hillsboro High School graduates Charlie Milligan and Kayla Jackson have been recognized as the top achievers in the Business Cooperative Program for Hillsboro High School.
Charlie Milligan, the son of Chuck and Cheryl Milligan, received the honor of top earnings in the amount of $11,000 through employment with Bear Mechanical, Inc. during his senior year at HHS. Milligan has received two pay increases and was hired as a full-time employee immediately after graduation.
In the photo, Milligan is working on a lap rail for a customer in Pennsylvania. The customer comes frequently to inspect the product and is very happy with the quality. One of the job requirements is precision, and Milligan is trusted to provide such quality.
Milligan's future plans are to continue working for Bear Mechanical and to enroll in courses for additional training to assist in his current position. Milligan was first introduced to this trade while watching his uncle using multiple machines to reconstruct and repair parts. He was intrigued with the craftsmanship and wanted to learn the trade. Bear Mechanical has provided an opportunity for Milligan to pursue his dream.
Kayla Jackson, the daughter of Joy Howard and the late Jimmy Ray Jackson, received the honor of most hours worked in the amount of 1,368 hours through employment for Holtfield Coffee Station during her senior year at HHS.
Christina Warnock, manager for Holtfield, said “Kayla concentrates on making the customers happy by putting them first. She is extremely dependable, hard-working and her organizational skills are impeccable. Kayla has a never-fail attitude along with responsibility well beyond her years. She has definitely helped grow the business.”
Rachel Clounch, assistant manager, said “Kayla is dedicated and creative. She is the top coffee shop girl and never afraid to take on any task that needs done. It has been an honor and pleasure to work with Kayla, and she will definitely be missed.”
Kayla will continue her education in August at the Kettering College of Medical Arts, majoring in sonography.
The Business Cooperative Program provides an opportunity for HHS students to leave campus early to participate in a business experience. The businesses involved during the 2011-12 school year were: Bear Mechanical, Holtfield, KFC, NCB, Dairy Queen, Warren Furniture, Classics' Diner, McDonald’s, The Kroger Co., Donald Fender Realty, Subway at Walmart, Drs. Williams, McConnaughey & Ballard, Dr. Tausha Barton, Horne Mowing, Highland Computer Forms, Hobart Corp., Ponderosa, Twenty-Four Exchange, Hillsboro Recreation, South High Pizza Hut, Wendy’s, LaCascada, Doug Seipelt, Rick Pitzer, Hamilton Farms and Holiday Inn Express (Wilmington). Without their support, this program would not be successful.
During the school year, students completed over 100 employment applications, worked 9,800 hours and earned $85,000.
