  • Rose Marie Cowdrey receives 2010 Faye Collins Designer of the Year Award
    Hillsboro Garden Club member Rose Marie Cowdrey recently won the 2010 Faye Collins Designer of the Year Award from the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs. Mrs. Cowdrey, a 44-year Garden Club member and past president, received notice of the award from Juanita Wilkins, design study chair, and was honored at the July 12 OAGC banquet.

  • Strokes for Strokes raises $2,100
    The annual Strokes for Strokes golf tournament welcomed 80 participants who enjoyed 18 holes of golf to raise $2,100 for the Adena Greenfield Medical Center's Stroke rehabilitation program. Proceeds from this tournament will be used to purchase educational materials for the center's stroke library that features helpful post-recovery information for stroke survivors and their families.

    Kelsey Sheeley of Hillsboro exhibited her Polled Dorset ewe, Whitney, at the 2010 Ohio State Fair. Whitney is a Sept. 2009 ewe lamb and placed first in the fall ewe lamb class.

  • Gilmore, Mercer descendants reunite
    Descendants of Lewis Gilmore and Stella Vance Mercer met on Sunday, June 27 at the Fairfield Local School for their annual family reunion, with 120 in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Mercer were the parents of eight daughters: Bess Duncan, Opal Murray, Maxine Patton, Frances Wiggins, Jeannette Miller, Jane Cannon, Hilda Lucas, and Kathryn Karnes. Each year, one family serves as host, and this year, the hosts were Roger Cannon and Ann Davis from Eufala, Okla.
