    The Hillsboro Garden Club held its monthly meeting on July 27 at Floral Hall.
  • Greenfield Library Link: Summer reading program a great success
    Summer Reading Adventure was GREAT!  We had a total of 528 participate in our summer program. We also had 65 signed up for our Library Camp.

    The annual Mick reunion was held Aug. 15 at Seip Mound outside of Bainbridge. The weather cooperated and there was a good crowd of at least 120.

    Giving thanks. That was commonplace at this year's Area Agency on Aging District 7's Appreciation Brunch, which was recently celebrated at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Friends Center in Portsmouth.

  • Gilmore, Mercer descendants host reunion June 27
    Descendants of Lewis Gilmore and Stella Vance Mercer met on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the Fairfield Local School for their annual family reunion, with 120 in attendance.
  • AGMC hosts 6th annual Student Fun and Safety Fair
    The Student Fun and Safety Fair (SFSF) hosted by Adena Greenfield Medical Center (AGMC) was held on Aug. 5, approximately 225 children and their families joined the staff of AGMC for an evening full of fun, food and prizes. The children received education from the Paint Creek Fire/EMS on what to do in a fire emergency by participating in their fire safety exhibit.

    The 2010 Highland District Library teen summer reading program ended with a Surf's Up party.

    Modern Woodmen of America will hold a free workshop for those in the community who are interested in learning more about long-term care options in the state of Ohio. The event will be at the Old Y Restaurant, U.S. 62 south at S.R. 321, Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m.

    Rebecca Moore, will give a gospel concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22 at the New Vienna Community Church 412 West Street, New Vienna.
  • Now is the time for seeding of forage crops
    As we move into the month of August, a more typical summer weather pattern has returned to our area. In other words, it has been hot and dry! While we are not approaching drought stage, most farmers and gardeners would prefer that we continue to see an occasional rain to keep the excellent crop growth that we have seen throughout the season.  The state fair wrapped up last weekend and before long we will be talking about the Highland County Fair.
  • Seniors host ice cream social Aug. 21
    Ice cream social this Saturday
        Come one, come all to the Highland County Senior Center for an Ice Cream Social. The date is Saturday, Aug. 21 from 4-6:30 p.m. In addition to ice cream, we will be serving hot dogs, hamburgers, assorted salads and sides, pie and cake, ice tea, lemonade and coffee. This event is sponsored in part by VFW Post 9094 and VFW Women’s Auxiliary 9094. All proceeds will help support the programs and services the Center provides the older adults of our community.
  • SATH sponsors annual Cutie Pie contest
    SATH (Supplementary Assistance to the Handicapped) will once again be sponsoring a “Cutie Pie” and “Cutie Pet” contest during the Highland County Fair (Sept. 4-11).
