The Hillsboro Garden Club held its October meeting on the 25th at the Floral Hall.
The meeting was brought to order by new president Larry Moore.
The Pledge of Allegiance soon followed as did the roll call. The minutes of the last meeting were not read.
Treasurer Ruth Anna Duff gave the group the finance report and said that we are waiting for the new roof to be put on, which will be completed the week of Thanksgiving.
The Regional attendees reported on the Regional event and explained a fun activity about how they were to come up with an impromptu center piece using the various items available. They shared a nice photo of the attendees and their lovely creation.
Keeping in with the theme of beautiful designs, two were brought to the meeting by Larry Moore and Rose Marie Cowdrey.
In other business, the club discussed adding a novice class to the Friday Flower Show at the Highland County Fair. This would give members who have never designed or entered, a chance to compete against others who have never designed. Further discussion will take place at the Nov. 10 meeting, when the Flower Show Committee will meet at the Floral Hall .
Also, during this meeting the committee will decide on themes for the upcoming 2012 Highland County Fair Flower Show.
In additonal discussion, Vice President Carol Gorby expressed that she thought it would be a nice for us to display our creative designs in various areas in Highland County. One suggestion was to display monthly a creative design in the county libraries.
However, Nancy Baldwin stated that she already donates time and designs to the Greenfield library. Members thought this was a very nice gesture that we should continue. A
committee will be formed to look into this further.
In the last order of business, the group discussed the upcoming Holiday parade in Hillsboro. Jackie Cowdrey, club secretary, shared the theme of the parade and it was decided that committee members would come together in the next week or so to discuss the event further. They also decided that Nov. 19 would be the day to decorate the float at the Floral Hall.
The program for the evening was delivered by Nancy Baldwin. Nancy gave the group a very nice program about succulents and cactus. She displayed various educational elements and also had several live plants to display.
The meeting ended with a delicious array of homemade cakes, beautifully displayed on plates for the members. Assorted nuts, candies and beverages were also served. A huge thank you to Ruth Anna DUff and Dena Benner for the wonderful refreshments.
The next meeting will be held at the Floral Hall on Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. New members, old members and guests are always welcome.[[In-content Ad]]
