GREENFIELD — The McClain boys varsity soccer team suffered another disappointing and close defeat on Monday night in Greenfield losing to a very good Eastern Brown squad by a 2-0 score.

The final score didn’t reflect how well the non-conference game was played both offensively and defensively by the young and scrappy Tigers team. The athletic and physical Eastern Brown team sports an overall record of 11-3-2 and is at the top of Southern Hills Athletic Conference.

“I’m really proud of the way we played tonight against a very good Eastern Brown team,” McClain head coach John Gill said. “I think this was a pretty good warmup game for us heading into the tournament.”

McClain’s defense was superb all night and junior goalie Eyan Hill gave up just a single goal in each half to a team that has been putting up big numbers offensively all season.

The Warriors didn’t score their first goal until the 14:58 mark of the opening half, and added their final goal at the 32:50 mark of the second period.

“This was a very physical and competitive game and they’re a super-strong team, but I thought our kids competed really well,” Gill said. “I’m not disappointed about our performance in this game because they’ve really been whacking a lot of the teams that they have played this year.

“I think we made them really have to work hard for both of their goals tonight and I’m just super proud of our kids.”

The Tigers finish up regular season play Saturday, Oct. 17 when they travel to Circleville for an afternoon match.
