Whiteoak celebrates
homecoming Dec. 16

   Whiteoak’s homecoming ceremony, “A Starlit Night,” is scheduled for
Friday, Dec. 16, in between the reserve and varsity game vs. Lynchburg-Clay.
In support of the Bright Local Food Pantry, Whiteoak Service Learning class
is asking each person to bring a canned good item to the game. There will be
a collection box at the gate. Thank you in advance for supporting the pantry
during this holiday season.

Christmas at the Cabin

   Janny Brizius has announced seasonal hours for Christmas at the Cabin,
located on Cave Road east of Hillsboro. The cabin, which is stuffed with
hand-crafted wares from numerous artisans – both local and across the
country – features clothing, jewelry, household wares, special holiday
decorations and more. The cabin will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, and from 1-5 p.m. on Sundays through Dec. 18. Call (937)

Greg Wilkin Memorial
Tournament Dec. 26

   The Greg Wilkin Memorial Scholarship Alumni Basketball Tournament will
take place on Monday, Dec. 26 and Tuesday, Dec. 27 at Lynchburg-Clay High
School Gymnasium. All proceeds benefit the Greg Wilkin Memorial Scholarship
fund. To register a team, please contact the Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter at
937-364-2250 ext. 11612 by Dec. 9.

Recovery program meets on Tuesdays
   The Celebrate Victory Recovery Program meets every Tuesday night at 7
p.m. at ReaLife Church, located at 230 West South Street, Hillsboro.

Alzheimer’s Support Group meetings
   The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati will sponsor a
Highland County Alzheimer’s/Dementia Family Caregiver Support Group on the
third Monday of each month from 5-6:30 p.m. at Highland District Hospital.

Colony Theater hosts
Christian music series

   The Colony Theatre in Hillsboro will kick off its Christian music series
the third Saturday of every month. Shows start at 7:30 p.m For information,
call Tina Bradshaw at the Colony or Charlie Hargrave at 218-2290.

Southside Praise and Worship
   Southside Praise and Worship meets for Sunday school at 10 a.m. Sundays
and hosts worship services 10:45 and 6 p.m. Sundays and 7 p.m. Tuesdays. The
church is located at 621 S. East St., Hillsboro and is led by pastors Denny

Christmas party in Belfast
   The Knights of Pythias Lodge 696 of 2158 state Route 73, Belfast will
host a Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 17 beginning at 5:45 p.m. Dinner
will begin at 6:15 p.m. (bring a covered dish). Santa will arrive at 7:30
p.m. There will be drawings, door prizes, games, food and prizes. Gifts are
donated by local merchants, friends and families. If you would like to make

Next Open Door
meal Jan. 28

   There will not be an Open Door meal at the Greenfield United Methodist
Church in November or December. The next meal will be on Jan. 28.

Breakfast with Santa at
Senior Center Dec. 17

   Breakfast with Santa will be held Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. - noon at the
Highland County Senior Center. Pancakes, sausage, eggs, hash browns,
biscuits and gravy and beverages will be served for $3 per person. The
public is invited to call the center at 393-4745 to make a reservation. All
children are invited to meet Santa and his elves.

Christmas dinner
at Senior Center

   A Christmas Day dinner will be held Dec. 25 at the Senior Center from
noon-2 p.m. Persons attending are asked to bring a salad and dessert. If
interested, make reservations by calling the center at 393-4745. The public
is invited. The dinner is sponsored by the Purdin family and volunteers.

SOACDF offers $7,500 Educational
Excellence Competitive grant

   The Southern Ohio Agricultural and Community Development Foundation will
once again offer the Educational Excellence Competitive Grant for school
year 2012-13. The Educational Excellence grant is a one-time award of up to
$7,500 toward the cost of tuition, on campus housing, lab fees and books
that can be billed through the college or university. Producers who reside
in the 22 counties the foundation serves with a current Farm Service Number
on record with the Farm Service Agency as of July 1, 2011 and their
financial dependents or tobacco program eligible producers and their
financial dependents are eligible to apply.
   Applicants must be enrolled fulltime as a sophomore, junior or senior in
the 2012-13 school year at an accredited institution and be seeking a
bachelor's degree. Students must also maintain 2.8 or higher GPA to be
eligible. Applications and guidelines for the Educational Excellence
Competitive Grant are now available at the SOACDF office or online at
www.soacdf.net.  
   The application period is Jan. 1, 2012 to Jan. 31, 2012. Applications
will not be accepted either before of after this period. If you have
questions, please call the foundation office at (937) 393-2700.

HUBA holds
membership drive

   The Hillsboro Uptown Business Association is currently holding a
membership drive to encourage new and renewed support by memberships for the
organization to continue to promote uptown Hillsboro. Membership
contributions help HUBA to do the following: Boofest, the Christmas parade,
the First Friday art walk, First Friday car show, snowflake pageant and
First Friday Christmas. This year, membership is open to individuals,
families, businesses and organizations outside the uptown business district
who wish to join the effort to improve the quality of uptown Hillsboro and
show pride for their community. For questions, information or details on how

Pancake breakfast at
Lynchburg firehouse

   An all-you-can-eat community pancake breakfast will be held at the
Lynchburg firehouse on Dec. 17 from 8 a.m. - noon. The cost is $7 for adults
and $4 for children 5 and under. Santa will be there for the children.

Hoxworth blood drive
Dec. 26 in Lynchburg

A Hoxworth Blood Drive, hosted by the Lynchburg Area Joint Fire and
Ambulance District, will be held Monday, Dec. 26 from 1:30-7:30 p.m. For
appointment, contact Sharon Higgins at 937-364-6209. A fleece blanket will
be given to all donors.

A Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec.
