A Back to School Free Sale (everything is free) will be held Saturday, Aug. 11 from 8 a.m. - noon at the Highland County Fairgrounds' Wharton Building.

The Highland County Homeless Shelter is gladly accepting donations. Their requests for August and September are paper towels and toilet paper.

Highland County 4-H & Extension will host a pancake supper Saturday, Aug. 11 from 5-7 p.m., followed by live auction at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Wharton Building at the Highland County Fairgrounds. There is a $5 donation for supper.

Giving thanks. That was common place at this year’s Area Agency on Aging District 7’s (AAA7) Annual Appreciation Brunch, which was recently held at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Friends Center in Portsmouth. This year, the Agency hosted a special “birthday party” for attendees in celebration of
the AAA7’s 40 years of service that is marked in 2012.

The 2012 Highland County DARE Fest will be held Aug. 3 and 4 at the AmVets Park at Rocky Fork Lake. Friday night will feature a fish fry starting at 4:30 p.m. and a Highland County's Got Talent Contest (registration begins at 4:30 p.m.).
