The Highland County Senior Citizen Center is having an Alaskan Pollock Fish Fry on Friday, July 13 from 4-6 p.m. The public is also invited to square dance hoedown-style at the Highland County Senior Citizen Center on July 21 at 5 p.m.

Sixteen teams gathered at Holtfield Station during the 2012 Festival of the Bells to compete in the Hillsboro Uptown Business Association's first annual barbecue cookoff.

The artwork of local seniors was recently showcased at the Area Agency on Aging District 7’s (AAA7) 30th Annual Senior Citizens Art Show and Essay/Poetry Contest that was held at the Esther Allen Greer Museum and Gallery, located on the campus of the University of Rio Grande in Rio Grande.

Boating Skills and Seamanship Class to be presented by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 6-10 Hillsboro. The class is being hosted by Rocky Fork Marine from 9-12 each Saturday for six weeks, starting July 7. There is a cost of $25 for the required book.

Most of the three county area did receive some rain over the weekend. I have heard as little as a tenth of an inch to maybe an inch in some places, but it came with a price. The storms impacted much of Ohio and many states extending to the Atlantic Coast. Many people were without electric for several hours, some several days, and some still were without power when I wrote this.
