Highland County DARE Fest set for Aug. 3 weekend

The 2012 Highland County DARE Fest will be held Aug. 3 and 4 at the AmVets Park at Rocky Fork Lake. Friday night will feature a fish fry starting at 4:30 p.m. and a Highland County's Got Talent Contest (registration begins at 4:30 p.m.). 

 

The Highland County's Got Talent is sponsored by Amvets, ServiceMaster and Highland County D.A.R.E. and will include a first-place prize of $500, second-place prize of $300 and third-place price of $200.

 

Saturday will include an ATV pull (contact Dep. Campton at 393-1421 for details); hot air balloon rides in the evening (weather permitting); inflatable rides and games, including mini-Olympics, for the kids all day; and music by Blue Steele at 9 p.m. There will also be a K-9 demo and emergency vehicle display. 

 

There will be an ATV pull contest on Saturday. Bring any ATV or side by side. Registration is $10 and will begin at 10 a.m. Anyone under 18 will need parental consent. Entrants will be divided into weight classes. For more information, call Chris Campton at (937) 840-6240 ext. 334.

 

Families can camp for the entire weekend for $20. Food, including breakfast on Saturday, will be available for purchase. Contact Dep. Stroop at the Highland County Sheriff's Office, (937) 393-1421 for more details or to reserve a camping spot.
