The Katherine Granger Floral Hall was in full bloom Monday with the annual Dahlia Show that featured 180 entries.

The flowers ranged in size from about that of a silver dollar to the giant crowd-pleasing platter sized blooms in a rainbow of colors.

Mark Neel of Cincinnati was honored with the Best of Show Award for his spectacular coral 'Woodlands Wildthing' dahlia. Neel was the previous winner of Best of Show for the 2011 Dahlia Show.

Senior Judge for the American Dahlia Society Richard Westfall of Marysville said it was a very close call between the 'Wildthing' and Larry Moore's white daisy-like entry 'Alpen Cherub' which was awarded Second Best of Show.

However, Larry Moore, president of the Hillsboro Garden Club and a member of the American Dahlia Society, did take blue ribbons in other categories, including the three bloom class where he displayed exceptional quality wine-colored 'Jessie G' dahlias.

Judy Moore took home a blue ribbon and Best of Show in the “Rail Fence” Artistic Class with a stunning wood base and a pair of dramatic red 'Wildman' dahlias. Nancy Baldwin won a blue ribbon and Second Best of Show in “The Dahlia” Artistic Class.

Rick Reasor, also of Cincinnati, received the novice award for his bicolored 'Just Peachy' entry. Anna Neel was the winner of the student entry with a plate-sized yellow dahlia, 'Kelvin Floodlight.'
