On Nov. 12 at approximately 6:03 p.m., two inmate workers assigned to the kitchen detail fled the jail while taking trash to the dumpster. Both inmates ran from the area on foot. One remains at large.

Republican Highland County Commissioner Tom Horst held off a challenge by Democrat Randy Mustard, a Paint Township trustee. Horst was re-elected Tuesday by an unofficial vote of 9,329-7,148.

Incumbent Shane Wilkin has been re-elected as one of three Highland County Commissioners by an unofficial vote of 10,435-5,783 following Tuesday's election. Wilkin will start his second term as a county commissioner on Jan. 2, 2013.

Chad McConnaughey is unofficially the new Highland County Recorder, winning by a vote of 10,801 to 4,537 in Tuesday's election by the voters of Highland County. McConnaughey, a Republican, defeated Independent candidate Larry Burns Jr. for the seat, garnering 71 percent of the vote.

It's been a good night thus far for the Highland County Republican Party. Republican candidates in all contested county races held significant early leads Tuesday.

On Monday, Nov. 5, the Hillsboro Police Department received a call from Tractor Supply Company, 1457 North High St., Hillsboro. It was advised a male entered the store and took clothing items. He then fled the store.
