McConnaughey earns 71 percent of voters' support for county recorder

Chad McConnaughey is unofficially the new Highland County Recorder, winning by a vote of 10,801 to 4,537 in Tuesday's election by the voters of Highland County.

McConnaughey, a Republican, defeated Independent candidate Larry Burns Jr. for the seat, garnering 71 percent of the vote.

The current county recorder is Dick Counter, a Republican, who filled the term vacated by Ike Hodson, who replaced the retiring Paulette Donley as the Clerk of Courts.

McConnaughey defeated Counter in the primary this March.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank first and foremost the voters in Highland County who supported me in this general election," McConnaughey said.

"I look forward to representing Highland County for the next four years as your County Recorder and will work diligently to record history in the making here in this great county.

"Secondly, I would like to thank my family and friends. This campaign would not have been successful without each and every one of you, and I appreciate all of the support and hard work that they have provided."

McConnaughey also thanked his opponent for the fair race during their campaigning.

"I would also like to acknowledge my opponent, Mr. Larry Burns, Jr. Mr. Burns ran a great race, and I appreciate and respect the way in which Larry presented himself," McConnaughey said. "I look forward to the next four years. I am excited at the path ahead, and I look forward to serving you, the citizens of Highland County."

Burns is a former Hillsboro City School Board member and is currently a Highland District Hospital Board of Trustees. Burns is also retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation.
