Leesburg man charged with theft

On Monday, Nov. 5, the Hillsboro Police Department received a call from Tractor Supply Company, 1457 North High St., Hillsboro. It was advised a male entered the store and took clothing items. He then fled the store.
The store reported that male subject had stolen a coat and a pair of boots and got into a green van and fled. The department learned that the van had dropped off the suspect in the 1200 block of North High St.[[In-content Ad]]
Through investigation, Randy Smith, 26, of Leesburg, was found in front of Kmart, and officers observed him enter the store. He was wearing the stolen clothing and was detained in Kmart. Upon being taken into custody, he was also found to have a bayonet with a 10-3/4 inch blade in the front of his pants.
The value of the stolen merchandise was found to be $279.98.
Smith was charged with theft and carrying a concealed weapon.
