The McClain High School class of 1971 – the 100th graduating class at MHS – had its 40-year class reunion on Oct. 15 at the Greenfield Eagles Lodge.

The Lynchburg-Clay Veterans Day program will be held Nov. 11 at the high
school at 6762 state Route 134 South, Lynchburg. Refreshments and snacks
will be provided from 8-9 a.m., and the program will begin at 9 a.m. Both
past and present veterans will be recognized. The first row of the
Lynchburg-Clay High School staff and student parking lot will be reserved
for veterans.

Lisa Rhonemus of the Fantastics 4-H Club has been selected to receive the 2011 Mary E. Fisher Outstanding Family and Consumer Science Member Award.

The annual meeting of the Highland SWCD was held on Oct. 13 at the Hi-TEC in Hillsboro. Ken Alcorn took home top honors at this years’ Annual Meeting by being named the 2011 Cooperator of the year by the Highland SWCD supervisors and staff.

The October meeting of the New Petersburg Social Civic Club was held at the Fall Creek Friends Church with hostess Margaret Crabtree. Seventeen members answered roll call by bringing a bag of candy.

The Fall Harvest Carnival will take place this Sunday, Oct. 23, from 5-7:30pm at Hillsboro First United Methodist Church. The event is free.

The Oct. 11 meeting of the Lynchburg Three Arts Club was held at the home of Colleen Mount, which was beautifully decorated in keeping with the Halloween and fall season.

The wonderful aroma of dill and fennel, lemon and basil, pepper and marigold filled the air. I can still hear the wind, outside the cabin, as it passes high over the creek valley. In my imagination, it carries me forward to next year, as I think of my garden growing ever so perfectly next spring. But I can wait. This winter, I can simply open my dresser drawer, breathe deeply, and sit in my summer garden whenever I wish.

It's almost time to get your crochet hooks, knitting needles, scissors, sewing machine and whatever else you need and join others on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Sardinia Church of Christ, 7130 Bachman Drive, Sardinia, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for a day of blanket making for Project Linus.
