This year-round project of Samaritan’s Purse is coming to its peak, as local businesses, churches and schools prepare to collect gift-filled shoe boxes during National Collection Week, Nov. 14-21. Volunteers can drop off their shoe box gifts at one of six bustling locations in the area to help kids in 100 countries know they are loved and not forgotten.

The staff and volunteers of the Clinton Memorial Hospital Gift Shop are officially beginning the holiday season by hosting an open house on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Hillsboro Uptown Business Association (HUBA) will present the annual uptown holiday parade on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. The theme of this year's parade will be “A Storybook Christmas,” and the streets of uptown Hillsboro will be bustling with activities throughout the day and evening hours.

Southern State Community College Central campus will be hosting a hands-on, three-part Genealogy workshop. The session will be held on Tuesday evenings, November 1, November 15 and November 29, 6-8 p.m. in the college library at the Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

More than 150 students and their families participated in the Buckskin Family Fun Fitness Night on Oct. 18.

Sinking Spring United Methodist Church will be holding an Election Day dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 8. The dinner will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 7:30 p.m. or sold out. The event is being sponsored by the United Methodist Women.

Altrusa of Highland County met Tuesday, Oct. 18 with the District 5 First Vice-Governor in attendance. There were 23 present.  A delicious dinner was served by Mike from All Seasons Catering.
