Three Arts Club holds November meeting

The November meeting of the Lynchburg Three Arts Club was held at the country home of Rebecca Davidson. The president, Kathy Farkus, opened the meeting by having Nancy Lippert read the club collect. The secretary, Caroline Braley, read the minutes of the last meeting. The roll call was answered by telling your favorite fall recipe. Among those listed were monkey bread, apple cake, applesauce, hot spiced cider, apple pie, scalloped rhubarb and Shirley Allen's popcorn balls.
Davidson, the treasurer, gave her report, and Farkus is going to decorate the Christmas tree at the Highland House for the Christmas season. The list of what people will bring for the annual Christmas dinner, which will be held at Farkus's house, was passed around. The book for our winter reading program was discussed and will be chosen next month.
The meeting was adjourned for the program, planned by Ellen Pennington, which consisted of a very interesting report by Robin Lashley on the missionary trip she, her mother and father, Colleen and Dennis Mount, and friends David and Lisa Carter, took to Panama. They visited the Kuna and Embera tribes, which were very different from each other. One tribe wore very bright colors, made jewelry and clothing from the national plants and wood which surrounded them and sold them to make their living. According to Lashley and her mother, they were very good salesmen. The other tribe lived in the national forest and wore very little clothing. They lived so far from civilization that they did not come into any contact with tourists. A church in Atlanta raised money to build a home for one family, who lived in a tin shack with five children. One of the things they brought to Panama with them was enough Bibles for each family to have one. The tribes treated them like treasurers and could not wait to read them. Lashley made a PowerPoint program, which we watched. Panama is the southernmost country in Central America. There are more than 10,000 varieties of plants and flowers and more than 1,000 varieties of birds. Everything is in beautiful colors.
After this enjoyable program, we adjourned to a beautifully decorated dining room and were served a delicious dessert course.
