Board of Elections
meets Nov. 28
The Highland County Board of Elections will hold their monthly meeting
Monday, Nov. 28 at 8 a.m. at the Board of Elections Office. This will also
involve the official count from the Nov. 8 general election. The public is
welcome to attend.
Hillsboro mayor
plans veterans tribute
Hillsboro Mayor Dick Zink is organizing a tribute for veterans of the
U.S. Armed Forces so that residents of Hillsboro can have a chance to thank
them for their services to the nation and community.
“December 7, 2011 marks the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbor,” Zink
said. “We will be holding a veterans recognition day at Hillsboro High
School to honor all veterans of Hillsboro and Highland County. The program
will start at 7 p.m.”
Arrangements on the program have not been completed, he said, but should
be finalized by the November council meeting. The mayor said that he is
working with Hillsboro City Schools Superintendent Rick Earley and the
director of the high school band.

Edgewood Manor
offers Medicare help
Edgewood Manor of Greenfield will offer assistance with Medicare Part D
prescription plans every Wednesday from 1-4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to
noon during the enrollment period through Dec. 7. Bring a copy of your
Medicare card, a copy of all your medications or a medication list from the

Christmas at the Cabin
Janny Brizius has announced seasonal hours for Christmas at the Cabin,
located on Cave Road east of Hillsboro. The cabin, which is stuffed with
hand-crafted wares from numerous artisans – both local and across the
country – features clothing, jewelry, household wares, special holiday
decorations and more. The cabin will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Recovery program meets on Tuesdays
The Celebrate Victory Recovery Program meets every Tuesday night at 7
p.m. at ReaLife Church, located at 230 West South Street, Hillsboro.
Alzheimer’s Support Group meetings
The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati will sponsor a
Highland County Alzheimer’s/Dementia Family Caregiver Support Group on the
third Monday of each month from 5-6:30 p.m. at Highland District Hospital.

St. Mary Catholic School
The PTG at St. Mary Catholic School is having a holiday craft bazaar
with great crafts and independent vendors on Dec. 3 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in

The Marshall School Committee invites everyone to the sixth annual
Christmas in Marshall (formerly Christmas at the Lake) on Dec. 3 from 4-8
p.m. at the Marshall School Gymnasium in Marshall. Enjoy turkey and
dressing, homemade noodles, mashed potatoes and all the trimmings. A
freewill donation will be accepted. Have your picture taken with Santa or
participate in the benefit auction beginning at 7 p.m. All proceeds will
benefit the preservation of the Marshall School Gymnasium. Come enjoy the

The Knights of Pythias Lodge 696 of 2158 state Route 73, Belfast will

Mowrystown holiday
craft fair Dec. 3
The Mowrystown Grange holiday craft fair and bazaar will be held at
Whiteoak High School in Mowrystown on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Lunch will be served. The menu will include soups, sandwiches, chips, pies,
cakes and drinks.
Santa will be making an appearance following the holiday parade which
will begin at Crop Production (West Main Street) at 1 p.m. Lineup for the
parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Crop Production Service. The parade will
begin at 1:30 p.m. and will end at Whiteoak High School. No pre-registration

Breakfast with Santa will be held Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. - noon at the
Highland County Senior Center. Pancakes, sausage, eggs, hash browns,
biscuits and gravy and beverages will be served for $3 per person. The

children are invited to meet Santa and his elves.

SOACDF offers $7,500 Educational
Excellence Competitive grant
The Southern Ohio Agricultural and Community Development Foundation will
once again offer the Educational Excellence Competitive Grant for school
year 2012-13. The Educational Excellence grant is a one-time award of up to
$7,500 toward the cost of tuition, on campus housing, lab fees and books
that can be billed through the college or university. Producers who reside
in the 22 counties the foundation serves with a current Farm Service Number
on record with the Farm Service Agency as of July 1, 2011 and their
financial dependents or tobacco program eligible producers and their
financial dependents are eligible to apply.
Applicants must be enrolled fulltime as a sophomore, junior or senior in
the 2012-13 school year at an accredited institution and be seeking a
bachelor's degree. Students must also maintain 2.8 or higher GPA to be
eligible. Applications and guidelines for the Educational Excellence
Competitive Grant are now available at the SOACDF office or online at
www.soacdf.net.
The application period is Jan. 1, 2012 to Jan. 31, 2012. Applications
will not be accepted either before of after this period. If you have

The Southern Ohio Agricultural and Community Development Foundation
serves 22 counties in southern Ohio by providing educational assistance,
agricultural and economic development grants. The foundation has awarded
more than $80 million in grants since the programs began in 2001.
Leesburg Heritage Club
hosts Dec. 11 dinner
The Leesburg Heritage Club will host a chicken and noodle dinner Dec. 11
from 4-6 p.m. at the Leesburg Fire House before the luminary services. A
freewill donation will be accepted. The menu will include chicken and
noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, dinner rolls, desserts, coffee,
water, iced tea and lemonade. Proceeds will benefit local projects.

Christmas Program Dec. 3

The SATH (Supplementary Assistance to the Handicapped) organization
will be sponsoring its 16th annual "BREAKFAST WITH SANTA" on Saturday, Dec.
3 at its new location, the Hillsboro Elementary School Cafeteria.
Breakfast will be served from 9-11 a.m. The cost is $8 per child and $5
per adult. Activities for the children include getting their picture taken
with Santa, making a Christmas decoration with the help of Santa's elves and
decorating cookies with Mrs. Claus, all of which can be taken home with
