Roger West, a board member of the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center, was recently honored with the Ohio School Boards Association’s Veterans Board Member Award at the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) 55th Capital Conference on Nov. 10 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
Students at Southern State Community College have a lot on their plates: classes, families, work schedules. But those enrolled in Tom Smith’s agriculture courses have added something extra—a home-grown dinner. Barbecued chicken, potato salad and side salad. Sound yummy? It’s their final exam. Smith, the new full-time faculty member in the agriculture program, wanted to give his students real-world experience, allowing them to follow the food cycle from farm to table.

Jen Walker, Curriculum Coordinator for the Athletic Training Program at Wilmington College, recently spoke to the Sports Rehabilitation and Therapy juniors about Athletic Training and why she chose the profession. Walker discussed all of the possibilities in Athletic Training, as well as, other healthcare professional routes that many students pursue after obtaining a bachelor’s degree and National Athletic Training Association Certification.
Chatfield student Dustin Fussnecker beat out more than 500,000 participants to receive fourth place in the FFA Organization's Agricultural Sales Entrepreneurship competition for high agricultural sales with his self-made company Fussnecker and Son's Tractor Sales.
On November 11, Whiteoak High School held a Veterans Day program. Twelve veterans and 30 friends and family from around the area were served snacks and coffee in the Old Gym by the student leadership team, Ms. Hahn, and Mr. Roush.
