Fingerhut resigns at Board of Regents chancellor

OLUMBUS — Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric D. Fingerhut today announced his intention to step down as the state’s leader of higher education after four years of service, effective March 13, 2011.
In his letter to Ohio Governor John Kasich, Chancellor Fingerhut said “Higher education is in Ohio’s DNA…we have been in the business of higher education as long as we have been a state.” Fingerhut also said that he has worked to “focus our extraordinary higher education infrastructure on helping Ohioans meet the challenges and opportunities of today’s global, knowledge based economy (and) we are making real, measurable progress…in graduating more students, keeping them in Ohio after graduation, and attracting talent to our state.”
Chancellor Fingerhut was appointed the seventh chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents on March 14, 2007. In March 2008, he delivered Ohio's 10-year Strategic Plan for Higher Education to the governor and Ohio General Assembly, with an overall goal to raise the educational attainment of the state of Ohio. Since its release, he has worked closely with the Kasich and Strickland administrations, the Ohio General Assembly, businesses, colleges and universities, and other state agencies implementing strategies to make higher education more efficient, while expanding low-cost pathways and educational opportunities to students and reframing the relationship between business and higher education; all to create jobs and build a globally competitive workforce to put Ohio on the path to economic prosperity.
"I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have had the privilege of working with so many committed leaders across higher education, government, business and civic life. I believe more than ever that higher education is the key to the prosperity of our state and all its people in the coming years, and that Ohio is well positioned to lead the world in this knowledge intensive 21st century economy. I am proud to have played a small role in this effort," Fingerhut said.
