This past Friday, one half of the Lynchburg-Clay Band students took to the bowling lanes raising money to support their growing band program. The LC Band Bowl-a-thon is in its third year and continues to help the growing number of students who participate in the bands.

Congratulations to the Whiteoak Jr./Sr. High February Students of the Month. They are: 7th grade, Adam Willey; 8th grade, Trent Gorman; 9th grade, Caitlyn Frazer; 10th grade, Caitlin Becraft; 11th grade, Tyler Williams; and 12th grade, Molly Oliver. 

Recently, the Whiteoak Task Force students made a donation in honor of Addison to the Ronald McDonald House. They sent cleaning supplies, personal-hygiene supplies, snacks, games and many, many books. These will all be enjoyed by the families that stay at the Ronald McDonald House while they wait for their family members to get better.

Both through service to others and knowledge acquired by our elders, some of the Lynchburg-Clay FFA members learned a valuable lesson by none other than “The Voice of Agriculture” himself, Mr. Orion Samuelson.

St. Mary Catholic School students in Grades 2-4 attended Mass at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral as part of Catholic Schools Week activities. Archbishop Dennis Schnurr presided over the mass and several area students participated.

Visitors from the Jiangxi Science & Technology Normal University in Jiangxi, China, visited Shawnee State University in January to tour the campus and discuss a possible exchange program with SSU.

PORTSMOUTH – SOMC’s Dr. Thomas Khoury has established an endowed scholarship fund for student poets at Shawnee State University to honor his late uncle, Dr. James Barbar, an educator, poet and lawyer.

The Shawnee State University Theater Department will present a classic Neil Simon comedy, “Plaza Suite,” for its annual Valentine Dinner Theater performance. “Plaza Suite” centers on Suite 719 in New York City’s Plaza Hotel, and three sets of guests who pass through it.

The SumDog Math Contest was from Jan. 18-24. Out of the seven schools (Bright Elementary, Fairfield Elementary, Clinton-Massie Middle School, Greenfield Middle School, Lynchburg-Clay Elementary, Hillsboro Elementary and Denver Place Elementary), Bright Elementary won first place.
