    All five Highland County FFA Chapters pulled together to host an FFA Career Development Event Invitational Contest.

    The Hillsboro FFA Chapter hosted the sub-district public speaking contest at Hillsboro High School. The Hillsboro had 10 members represent the FFA Chapter in the contest.

    Hillsboro FFA Fruit Sale a success
    On Feb. 19, the Hillsboro FFA Chapter celebrated FFA Week by holding a pizza party during lunch. At the pizza party, the FFA Chapter distributed their Fruit Sale incentive prizes. These prizes included a $100 iTunes gift card, a bean bag chair, a Keurig, wireless headphones, and an iPod touch.

    Stroll down musical memory lane with Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Jackie Wilson, Aretha Franklin, Tyrone Davis, Otis Redding and Johnny Taylor at Shawnee State University’s Vern Riffe Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23. Hosted by “Clean” Comedian Bryant “BLT” Turner, the music and comedy tribute presents some of the greatest hits from some of music’s great performers.

    'A Chorus Line' at SSU's Vern Riffe Center for the Arts
    “A Chorus Line,” winner of nine Tony Awards and the 1976 Pulitzer Prize, will be on stage at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7. The play is the celebration of the unsung heroes of musical theater – the chorus dancers. These valiant, over-dedicated, underpaid, highly trained performers back up the stars and make them look even more talented.

    Fairfield eighth-graders receive science fair awards

    Students' projects using the scientific method were on display for judging Feb. 14 at the Fairfield Middle School. The eighth grade formed two-student teams; the partners decided on a project of their mutual interest, established a problem for which they had to experiment, sought their results and created a display and a presentation to show their results.

    SSCC to host H.S. Art Showcase open house Feb. 28
    The annual Appalachian Gateway High School Art Showcase open house will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, on Southern State Community College's South Campus, 12681 U.S. Route 62, near Sardinia. The gallery will open at 6 p.m., with the awards ceremony to begin at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

    WHS Task Force visits Heartland of Hillsboro
    The Whiteoak High School Task Force went to Heartland of Hillsboro for a fun fashion show for the residents who all received balloons to brighten up their walkers and wheelchairs.
