    Festival basketball tournament slated for July 7

    The Festival of the Bells 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, sponsored by the Hillsboro Lions Club, will be held July 7 at the Hillsboro City Park (West North and Railroad Street).

    The American Legion Post 129 of Hillsboro baseball team was a perfect 2-for-2 Tuesday night, earning consecutive wins in a doubleheader sweep of Waverly Post 142 by scores of 2-1 and 10-0, en route to their eighth and ninth victories of the season.

    Rain, late starts and a blown light weren't enough to put a stop to the Hillsboro Post 129 Wooden Bat tournament on Saturday night and into Sunday morning as they split their final two games played on the field with an 11-7 loss to Westerville South and a 5-2 win over Washington C.H. Post 25.

    Lions Club A league team defeats NCB
    The Lions Club A-league baseball team won their first game of the season June 6, defeating the NCB baseball team, 5-4 at Shaffer Park.

    SCOL History: WCH pulls ahead of Miami Trace

    As it turned out, the Lions were not able to whip last-place Hillsboro. The Indians were able to slow the game down, which spelled trouble for the Lions. Pittser was held to 14 points, and his teammates provided little help. The Indians had better scoring balance, led by Jamie Thompson’s 11 points and Brian Fulton’s nine in their 42-40 upset win over the blue-and-white. This loss would cost the Blue Lions a gold basketball.

    Last week, Hillsboro Post 129 American Legion baseball head coach Ritchie Butler said it would take some time, but his ball club would start to turn things around for the positive … looks like he was looking into a crystal ball, as the Hillsboro squad have won three of their past five games.

    Hillsboro Tournament of Champions to begin July 21
    Hillsboro's 2012 Tournament of Champions will begin Saturday, July 21. The entry fee for each division is $250. All tournaments are double-elimination, and all drawings will be held at Richard Shaffer Park.
