  • Good Shepherd Gathering June 27

    The sixth annual Good Shepherd Gathering will will take place this Sunday evening, June 27 at 6:30 p.m. Come and enjoy an evening of Gospel Music you will not soon forget! The groups performing will be The Ball Family, The Southern Aires, Perfect peace and Kindred Spirit. Each group will sing a few numbers and then join as a choir to sing some of the old favorite of the church.

    We continue to "Make a Splash" with our summer reading program here at the Leesburg Library.
  • HDH honors Van Frank for 2,000 volunteer hours
    Maggie is a 10-year volunteer who just chalked up 2,000 volunteer hours. She is a volunteer who has been committed to the mission of caring through her service to HDH as a volunteer. Maggie currently volunteers in the Gift Shop, displaying merchandise, assisting customers with selection, and sales.
  • Magic Waters Theatre presents 'Adventure of the Walking Corpse'
    It’s been two summers since Tony Copper lent his genius to the stage at Magic Waters with an original Murder Mystery. His new  murder mystery with the incredibly long title of “Sherlock Holmes’ American Cousin in the Adventure of the Walking Corpse,” opened the weekend of June 18 and will continue with performances on June 25, 26, 27, and July 9, 10 and 11.
  • Brown County Writers Group to commemorate 10-year anniversary
    The Brown County Writers Group is 10 years old. There will be a celebration from 6-8 p.m. on June 24 at the Mt. Orab branch of the Brown County Public Library (the 'birthplace of the group in June 2000). Former members are invited to celebrate.
  • Highland County Quilters hold National Quilt Week luncheon
    The Highland County Quilters National Quilt Week luncheon was held at Hillsboro First United Methodist Church. Activities at the event included a carry in dish for the luncheon, a display of quilts, tote bags, wall hangings and other projects made by the ladies in attendance, and quilt bingo.

  • Family Camp brings 39th annual celebration to Restoration Acres July 26-29
    With the motto "building strong families of faith" at heart, the 39th annual Family Camp, hosted by Person to Person Ministries, will be held July 26-29, 2010 at Restoration Acres in Hillsboro. Family Camp, one of the most well-known ministry programs of Person to Person Ministries, is well-known throughout the country for its inspirational program that draws speakers and guests from numerous different states. Introduced in 1972 at the farm of Marvin Wilson by Larry "Bus" Wiseman, who founded Person to Person Ministries in 1967, Family Camp has been referred to as a "catalyst" for the family camp movement and has been nicknamed the "granddaddy" of family camps by the Christian Standard.

  • Ohio State Fair deadline June 20
    By most folks’ standards, summer vacation season is officially under way. The graduations have taken place and classes have ended for colleges that use the quarter system. 4-H camps as well as other camps are beginning. County fairs will begin later this month.
  • Faul joins Teach for America Corps
    Jade Faul, former resident of Hillsboro, is about to embark on a new adventure. She has completed three levels of higher education. She started out as a Post Secondary Enrollment Option student at Southern State Community College, earning an associate’s degree along with her high school diploma.
  • Seniors plan La Comedia trip on Sept. 16
    La Comedia Trip planned
        Join us on Thursday, Sept. 16 for a trip to Springboro’s famous La Comedia Dinner Theatre and a matinee performance of the hilarious comedy “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.” Our seats are the best in the house, floor level, center section, and La Comedia’s buffet is the finest in the area.   • Hillsboro Emblem Club sends coupons to U.S. Marines
    The Hillsboro Emblem Club met on Tuesday, June 8 at the Elks Lodge, with 12 members present.
  • Kickoff event July 1 for 2010 Operation Christmas Child
    A countdown event for the 2010 Operation Christmas Child efforts in Highland and surrounding counties will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 1 at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church at 133 E. Walnut St.
  • W3s help in city beautification
    Members of the W3s, which stands for Ward 3 of the city of Hillsboro, volunteered to clean up an area of Johnson Street this week. The group worked to pull weeds, pick up litter and debris, sweep sidewalks and mow the grass in the city right of way. Members of the group included Hillsboro Ward 3 City Council member Mary Brown Turner, Josh Fox, Robert Watterly,Lolita Williams, Jeffrey Fox and Connie Fox

    Summer Reading Adventure is going GREAT! Our theme this summer is "Make a Splash - Read." We have been having a great time in our Library Camp and Storytimes with this theme. We have 437 signed up at this time for our summer reading adventure, and it's not too late.
