  • SSCC to host Cabin Fever Arts Festival on Feb. 27

    The days may be short and the weather may be taking its toll, but there's always something to look forward to in February - the Cabin Fever Arts Festival.
  • Groves completes basic training for Marines
    Marine Corps Pvt. Sammy R. Groves, son of Angela C. Groves of Hillsboro, Ohio, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C. designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.
  • Greenfield History Club meets, discusses Valentine's Day holiday
        The Greenfield History Club, celebrating its 86th year, met February 13th at the home of Kathleen McMullen. Following holiday-inspired refreshments, the meeting opened with members and guests reading the club's collect, written by Ferne Benner.  Kaye York-Longworth, president, relayed greetings from members currently in Florida, Dayton, and Kazakhstan.
  • Buford Farmers Institute to be held. Feb. 26
    It's that time of year in February when people are looking for something to do to pass the winter months and avoid all the snow we are having. Come on out to the friendly town of Buford. Some of you may ask where Buford is and what the Farmers Institute is. The Buford Farmers Institute originated in 1904. For many years, the farmers and their families would gather at the annual event. They would share ideas and present updated materials on rural farming. Back in those years the institute would last two or three days.
  • Bowman guest at Cabin Fever Arts Festival at SSCC
    The Appalachian Artisan Guild is pleased to announce that area artist Rebecca Bowman will be a guest artisan in the Cabin Fever Arts Festival on Feb. 27 at the Fincastle campus of Southern State Community College.
  • Champions of Faith Gymnastics moves to new location
    Champions of Faith Gymnastics (Crusaders Gymnastics) has moved its operation from 107 Eagle Martin Dr. in Blanchester to a new location at 2005 US 62 in Winchester.  The new location is situated between Hillsboro and Mt. Orab, and is accessible from several State Routes (SR321, SR32, SR131, SR134, SR138, SR73 and US 50/US 62 all lead to the facility), allowing the facility to still serve four counties including Brown, Clermont, Clinton and Highland.
  • LCHS graduate named to Fall Semester Dean's List at College of Wooster
    Thomas Bohl, a graduate of Lynchburg-Clay High School, has been named to the Dean's List for the fall semester at The College of Wooster. Bohl, a sophomore biochemistry and molecular biology major from Sardinia, achieved a grade point average of 3.65 or above.

    Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania and its most famous citizen, Phil the groundhog, received their annual 15 minutes of fame last week. As expected, Phil saw his shadow which means that we are going to have six more weeks of winter. Does anyone remember Phil not seeing his shadow?

  • Cabin Fever features more than 41 artisans
    Cabin Fever is a presentation of the Appalachian Artisans Guild and SSCC's Art Department. It will be held on Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fincastle Campus of Southern State Community College located at 12681 U.S. 62, 1.5 miles north of state Route 32, or 18 miles south of Hillsboro. Admission is free.
