Revised jobs data released today confirmed that 2016 was the worst year for job growth in Ohio since the end of the recession in 2009. In 2016, Ohio gained less than 50,000 jobs, making our job growth rate 0.9 percent for the year. The nation grew by 1.6 percent.

As of 10:30 p.m. Thursday night, the National Weather Service has confirmed three tornadoes touched down in Highland County on Wednesday morning.

Highland County commissioners Shane Wilkin and Terry Britton presented a proclamation in recognition of 4-H Week at their Wednesday, March 1 board meeting. Commissioner Jeff Duncan is on vacation, but was in electronic communications with the board regarding the tornado that struck the Leesburg area early Wednesday morning. Commissioners extended their concerns for everyone's safety and well-being following the severe weather.

The Highland County Chamber of Commerce regrets to announce that Orion Samuelson will not be able to attend "Ag is Everyone's Business" this Friday, March 3 as previously announced due to health concerns which require immediate surgery. He deeply regrets that he will not be able to join us on Friday.

Braden Heizer, a senior at Fairfield High School, was the winner of this year’s Hillsboro Rotary Club Four-Way Speech Contest. The 2017 contest was held Tuesday, Feb. 28 during the Rotary Club’s luncheon at the Ponderosa Banquet Center.

Approximately 335 jobs will be lost at the Wilmington Air Park, according to three WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act) notices posted by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services on Monday.
