The Highland County Republican Party will be holding their annual Lincoln Day dinner on Tuesday, March 30 at the First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. David Yost, candidate for auditor of state, will be the speaker.
Highland County Community Action Organization, Inc. has been award $15,000 through a Walmart Foundation grant to the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA). The money will provide the HCCAO Senior Nutrition Program with a much-needed Hot Shot delivery vehicle, which is critical to continue serving seniors in this rural county.

Ohio Governor Ted Strickland will join Ohio’s Race to the Top (RttT) team and present the state’s plan for accelerating education reform to the U.S. Department of Education on Tuesday in Washington, D.C. Ohio was one of 16 finalists selected by the U.S. Department of Education to answer questions about the state’s RttT proposal.

A celebration of the opening of the new station for Hillsboro Fire and Rescue will be held Saturday, March 13 at the new station located at 204 North East Street from 1-4 p.m. The Highland County Press was given a preview tour of the building this week, which can be viewed in the accompanying news video, along with one-on-one discussions with firefighters.
The weather thus far in the month of March has given us a change from the snow and cold of February. Warmer temperatures have resulted in a departure of most of the snow and replaced it with an abundance of muddy conditions around the farm. How quickly the current conditions change remains to be seen. Just remember that we are inching closer to spring. Not fast enough, mind you, but we are getting there.
