Highland County commissioners and the legal counsel for Hangar 6 remained at an impasse Wednesday over property taxes levied against the business. Hangar 6 attorney Brian Sullivan of the Cincinnati firm of Dinsmore and Shohl, LLP, told commissioners he was "disappointed" over a March 15 letter, in which commissioners closed by saying "We cannot ask the taxpayers of Highland County to pay the taxes for {Hangar 6 owner George Matthews}, nor was that agreed to in the lease."

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced today that Ohio school districts will receive more than $430 million in new federal bonds for school construction projects. The bonds, allocated by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), can be used to finance the construction, rehabilitation or repair of a public school facility or for the purchase of land where a school will be built.

The Hillsboro Emblem Club met on Tuesday, March 9 at 7 p.m. at the Hillsboro Elks Lodge.  Reports were read and approved.  An article was read by the Americanism Chairman on Black History Month for the February meeting that was cancelled due to the weather.

Auditions for the spring one-act play “Man Woman Flower” will be held 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. “Man Woman Flower” will take the stage 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 2.

The Ohio Senate has recognized INFOhio, the Information Network for Ohio Schools, for its two decades of service to Ohio students, parents and educators. Senate Resolution 163, adopted in February by the full Senate, was presented to INFOhio Executive Director Theresa M. Fredericka and other INFOhio leaders during a Senate Education Committee meeting on March 9, 2010, by committee chair Gary Cates (R-West Chester).

On Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, Lynchburg Clay High School held its third annual Science Fair.  Approximately 250 students designed a scientific experiment, conducted research, wrote a research report, and participated in a personal interview with a judge.  Judges for the event included retired and current teachers, professionals, and community members.  Projects ranged in topic from chemistry to biology and physics to genetics.

James Carter of Hillsboro High School won this year's Four-Way Speech Contest sponsored by the Hillsboro Rotary Club. Carter's speech detailed the different types of alcoholism and its effects on society. Other finalists in the annual contest included Diana Barrett of Fairfield High School and Samantha Feldman of Hillsboro High School.

A workshop discussing farmland preservation issues will be held Tuesday, March 30 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The meeting will be at Appalachian Gateway Meeting Room at the SSCC South Campus in Fincastle.
