    The city of Hillsboro has proclaimed May as "Support Our Troops of Highland County Month," encouraging all citizens to assist them in their mission of lifting the spirits and paying tribute to Highland County citizens on active military service.
  • Washington Township to hold public meeting May 5
    The Washington Township Board of Trustees will hold a public meeting Saturday, May 5 at the township building on state Route 73 in Berrysville. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. for the purpose of hearing public comment on township EMS/fire contracts.
  • Liquor license application can proceed for Allensburg business
    The Division of Liquor Control of the Ohio Department of Commerce has ruled it will allow the liquor license application process to continue for a Highland County business, following objections to the application from an area church and the Highland County Board of Commissioners.

        Business owner Christina Gill, of Lynchburg, has purchased the former Sunnyside Inn on U.S. 50 in Allensburg across from the Allensburg Church of Christ. Gill has applied for a liquor license for the establishment.
  • Child sustains facial injuries in dog attack
    The Greenfield Police Department says a 3-year-old child sustained serious facial injuries after she was attacked by a dog at an area home.
  • 4 injured in ATV crash
    A Greenfield man has been cited for failure to control following an ATV crash that left four people injured in Buckskin Township.

        According to the Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District, four people were riding on a four-wheeler Sunday evening on West Fall Road near Harper's Station Road in Ross County.

    The Liberty Township Trustees Board of Trustees has scheduled an open meeting to seek public comments and opinions from area residents regarding the township's pending decision on EMS and fire coverage.
  • Couple sentenced on charges of manufacturing meth in vicinity of child
    A husband and wife have pleaded guilty to charges of operating a meth lab in the vicinity of a child, and have each been sentenced to three years in prison.
  • Horse destroyed after car crashes head-on into buggy
        No serious injuries were reported, but a horse had to be put down after a car went left-of-center and crashed head-on into a buggy on Harriet Road.
    
    According to the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the driver of the car, Jeffrey E. Tedford, was arrested at the scene on an outstanding warrant out of Clinton County. He was later cited by the OSHP with driving under suspension, going left of center and a seatbelt violation.

  • Pew study: States rely heavily on tax incentives, but few evaluate whether they work
    Every state offers tax incentives to attract, retain, and expand businesses and jobs. But no state ensures that policy makers rely on good evidence about whether these investments deliver a strong return, according to a new report by the Pew Center on the States. Twelve other states – including Ohio – have mixed results. Half the states have not taken the basic steps needed to know whether their incentives are effective.
