    All Highland County Fire units have responded to a brush fire in the 6000 block of East New Market Road.

    According to the Highland County Sheriff's Office, the call reporting the fire came in at approximately 12:30 p.m. Sunday. 

    The Hillsboro Fire and Rescue, Paint Creek Joint Fire and EMS, Leesburg North Joint Fire and EMS, Mowrystown Fire Department, Marshall Fire Department, Brush Creek Fire Department and Winchester Fire Department have all responded to the scene with manpower, brush units and tanker trucks. Lynchburg fire department is doing station coverage, but is also responding to an emergency run in their area.

    After a four-year hiatus from the clothing store business, Bill and Pat Snyder have opened a new bargain store at the Red Barn on North Shore Drive. The Snyders’ new store, the Bargain Barn, features primarily men’s and women’s clothing: Western wear, shoes, formals and wedding dresses, business attire, denim, and leather jackets.

  • Council, Bishop at odds over increases
    Employees for the municipality of Greenfield could see a 1-percent increase in pay if council passes proposed ordinances accepting salaries and wages and accepting a new collective bargaining agreement with the Fraternal Order of Police. However, some council members voiced opinions against the measures, stating that the increases might not be fiscally responsible, and are out of the scope of the authority of the city manager.

    The Federal Communications Commission is conducting an industrywide investigation into cell phone billing practices amid complaints by customers.
  • Highland County Convention and Visitors Bureau director leaves area
    Sara Lukens, director of the Highland County Convention and Visitors Bureau, and a board member of the Highland County Chamber of Commerce, has left the county and is now living in Texas, according to a family member. Highland County Commissioner Shane Wilkin said he has contacted a Convention and Visitors Bureau board member and suggested a meeting be scheduled as soon as possible to address the vacancy.
  • Townships considering all options for fire service, including forming a fire district
    Representatives from area townships currently in negotiations regarding fire services with the city of Hillsboro met informally Monday evening to discuss their options - including the possible formation of their own fire district - in the event a contract agreement cannot be reached with the city.
  • Ohio GOP ticket meeting in Clinton County
    In what many believe to be a first of its kind event in local political history, the Ohio Republican Party’s statewide ticket candidates will be coming for a campaign rally event in Clinton County, according to Clinton County GOP Chairman Geoffrey A. Phillips.
