    At 10:25 am Heaven Pitts age 19, of Greenfield was arrested for failure to appear.

  • Highland County under flood advisory, hazardous weather outlook UPDATED
    More than 1.5 inches of rain has fallen in the past day, leaving Highland County, and surrounding counties, on a flood advisory, flood watch, and a hazardous weather outlook Tuesday. Rain that fell through the night added to creeks and streams that were already high due to recent storms.

  • Husted to visit Highland County for primary election
    The Office of the Highland County Board of Elections is gearing up for the primary election Tuesday, as well as a visit from Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted.
      Director of Elections Steven Witham said that six precincts will be open Tuesday - only one of which is not in Hillsboro.
  • City hands out Arbor Day trees
    City employees and officials celebrated Arbor Day by passing out pine trees to first-graders at Hillsboro Elementary School.
      An annual tradition for the Hillsboro Street Department, the trees were purchased at the Highland County Soil and Water Conservation District's annual tree sale.
  • President Obama: Osama bin Laden is dead
    President Barack Obama addressed the nation at approximately 11:35 p.m. Sunday and announced that bin Laden, the mastermind behind the Sept. 11, 2001 attacked, was killed in Pakistan.
    "Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world, that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda, and a terrorist who is responsible for the murder of thousands of men, women and children," Obama said, speaking from the East Room of the White House.

    Top counties for wild turkeys killed last week were: Tuscarawas – 259; Guernsey – 247; Ashtabula – 241; Knox – 238; Harrison – 224; Adams – 213; Coshocton 210; Muskingum – 207; Licking – 199; and Columbiana – 191.

    The phrase "It's a great day for Highland County" was repeated numerous times Thursday when PAS Technologies announced an expansion in Hillsboro that will bring 40 jobs to Hillsboro - with the possibility of more to come.
     State and local elected officials met Thursday at the Hi-TEC Center in Hillsboro, joined by PAS leaders and community members for the official announcement that the aerospace technologies manufacturer was bringing jobs to Hillsboro.
  • Commissioners wish Hodson well; meet with county engineer on Carl Smith Drive project
    Highland County Engineer Dean Otworth and Michelle Throckmorton of the Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission (OVRDC) updated commissioners on the financing possibilities for the Hobart Drive/Carl Smith Drive access road project. “Design-wise, everything is moving forward,” Otworth said.

    Merchants National Bank contributed $350 to the 2011 Hillsboro Christian Academy prom. Paul W. Pence, president and CEO of Merchants National Bank, and Bertha Hamilton of MNB presented the donation Thursday morning outside the Hillsboro uptown bank location.
  • Senator Portman to attend expansion announcement at PAS Technologies in Hillsboro
    U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) will participate in PAS Technologies' expansion announcement in Hillsboro tomorrow, April 28, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Training and Employment Center, 1575 N. High Street, rooms 27 A & B. Sen. Portman has been working with corporate and local leaders to advance the expansion, which is expected to create 50-100 new jobs.
  • White House releases Obama's 'long-form' birth certificate
    The White House released President Barack Obama's "long-form" birth certificate Wednesday, which was followed by remarks to the press from the president. 
    Obama said that he was releasing the birth certificate to put an end to questions regarding his citizenship, saying that he and the country have better things to do, and that "We’re not going to be able to solve our problems if we get distracted by sideshows and carnival barkers."
