The city of Hillsboro has given notice to area township trustees that they will be discontinuing EMS services to Hamer, Jackson, Liberty, New Market, Paint, Penn and Washington townships as of June 30, due to the financial hardship on the city.
A Hillsboro woman who was charged in September with four counts of endangering children, and first-degree felony manufacturing drugs, was sentenced to community control and drug treatment, after she testified in court against her co-defendant.
A Greenfield man was found to be in violation of his community control Thursday in Highland County Common Pleas Court, and the presiding judge said the root of the defendant's problem was that he was "a jerk." Richard Jones, of Greenfield, appeared in court with his attorney J.D. Wagoner for an evidentiary hearing on the alleged violation reported to the court by the Highland County Adult Parole Authority. Jones was on community control from an initial charge of having weapons under disability.

A member of a tree trimming crew was transported by helicopter with severe injuries after a car crash left the man pinned between a vehicle and a wood chipper. According to Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward, at approximately 2:16 p.m. Wednesday on Main Road, just south of the intersection at State Route 124, a tree trimming crew was working in the area of the roadway.

The Highland County Convention and Visitor's Bureau Board of Trustees has pared down the pool of applicants for the CVB's executive director's position to five people. The Fourth District Court of Appeals has affirmed the decision of a Highland County jury regarding a local attorney, convicted on charges he used his clients' funds for his own use. Former attorney John Slagle was sentenced on March 19, 2010 to six years in prison following the conviction. In April 2010, he appealed the sentence.
