Crash closes U.S. 50 at 124 east

A two-vehicle crash at approximately 10:28 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29 closed U.S. 50 (Chillicothe Avenue) at the intersection with S.R. 124 (East Main Street) in Hillsboro for approximately three hours.
A tractor-trailer hauling fertilizer and a 1998 Chrysler Sebring convertible were involved in the crash.
The Hillsboro Police Department and Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District were on the scene.
Police officers re-routed U.S. 50 traffic to S.R. 124 and Bowers Avenue.
According to Ron Priest of the HPD and Bradley George of the Paint Creek EMS/Fire District, the occupants of both vehicles escaped serious injury.
First responders were waiting on another truck to remove the fertilizer that spilled onto the roadway.
[[In-content Ad]]According to the Hillsboro Police Department, the preliminary investigation shows that William Bryant, Jr., 34, of Hillsboro was driving a 1998 Chrysler Sebring convertible and was attempting to turn left from East Main St. onto westbound East Main St. At approximately the same time, Henry Smith, 35, was operating a 1999 Freightliner semi truck with a dump trailer on the back and was traveling eastbound on East Main St., attempting to follow US 50 on Chillicothe Pike.
Bryant had a stop sign and pulled into the side of the semi trailer, and the vehicle was run over by the trailer. The trailer then flipped over in the roadway, spilling a load of potash.
Bryant was transported to Highland District Hospital by the Paint Creek squad. Smith did not claim any injury at the scene.
The Hillsboro Street Department and Ohio State Motor Vehicle Enforcement assisted with the scene and the investigation.
A citation is pending upon completion of the investigation.
