The finance committee of the Hillsboro City Council has voted to recommend council reject the offer of a three year contract at $30 per person for EMS/fire coverage to Liberty, Jackson, New Market and Washington Townships.

    The committee met Monday evening at the Hillsboro fire station, and lasted less than two minutes. The session had been called for the purpose of discussing the proposal on EMS/fire contracts submitted to the city by area townships last Wednesday, and to review the the city's financial position.

U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) today announced that Todd Shelton will assume the role of Southeast District Representative on his team. Shelton will take over responsibilities for Kent Moore, who is retiring after serving as the Senator’s Southeast District Representative since February of 2011.

As a bridge replacement project on County Road 11 in Highland County nears completion, operations for the second phase of the project will start today, May 21, on County Road 48.

Highland County Commissioner Tom Horst swore in Lynn Patton this week as the newest board member of the Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Patton was appointed to the board by the Highland County Board of Commissioners last week. Patton joins Linda Allen, Deb Tissot, Sam Snyder, Cheryl Lyle, Karen Adams and Leo Kuhn on the board.

On Saturday May 12, First State Bank held the third annual Run For Life 5K Run/Walk in Winchester. Forty-two participants ran or walked in the event to raise money for the Adams County Relay For Life, an American Cancer Society event.

Students completing two years of Southern State Community College's sign language coursework will perform an ASL concert "Shrek Idol" 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on the college's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

    The former Treasurer of Lynchburg, who was sentenced to serve four years in prison and ordered to pay back $97,000 she stole from the village of Lynchburg, has been denied judicial release from prison in Highland County Common Pleas Court.

    Angelique Balon pleaded guilty in December 2010 to two counts of theft in office, felonies of the third- and fourth-degree.  As a result of the plea, a third count of theft in office was dismissed. Balon resigned from her elected position as treasurer in January 2009.
