Nearly $3,000 was identified as missing from the Village of Leesburg (Highland County) police evidence room in an audit report released by Auditor of State Dave Yost. The resulting investigation led to the June 5 indictment of former Leesburg police officer Duane Bussey on charges of theft and tampering with evidence, according to Yost.

    A Greenfield man charged in the first-degree felony armed robbery of a local gas station has been arrested.

    Greenfield Police Chief Tim Hester said the suspect, Levi Smith, was arrested Wednesday afternoon.

Highland County will participate in the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 during a special ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 18 at the Veterans Memorial outside the Highland County Courthouse. Highland County Commissioner Tom Horst said VFW Post 9094 will lead the ceremonies, which will include the raising of a 15-star, 15-stripe American flag from the era.

A parent of a Hills and Dales student spoke out about her concerns regarding the school-age programming, and an assistant principal's position was approved Tuesday, during the a meeting by the Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities. There was also discussion on an increase in the board's cash balance by nearly $1 million compared to last year.

The Highland County TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Hi-TEC facility in Hillsboro. The featured speaker will be a representative from the Romney for President campaign.

    The Hillsboro City Council said it needs more information to consider a request for a $30,000 line item transfer requested by the Hillsboro administration for "special projects," which includes redesigning the city's website and paying outside legal counsel for "options" regarding talks with Hillsboro's local chapter of the International Association of Firefighters.
 
    While the administration stressed they were not asking for additional funds, one council member asked why in the past month, the administration could not have told council they would need a $30,000 transfer.

The Hillsboro Uptown Business Association will sponsor the Baby Parade during the 2012 Festival of the Bells.

    Festival committee chairperson Michael Bradford said this is the first time the Baby Parade has been featured in at least three years.

An unofficial proposal has been given for the consideration of area township trustees for EMS and Fire Services, by the Hillsboro Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 2972. The proposal starts at $40 per person for 2013, and increases to $50 per person through 2021.
 
    According to a letter that begins the 14-page proposal, signed by Local 2972 president David Snider, Jr., "The enclosed document is intended to inform the recipient of how the city of Hillsboro, Ohio can provide quality fire and EMS coverage to the surrounding townships. The information enclosed is not intended in any way to be considered negotiating with the city or township by the Hillsboro Fire Fighters IAFF 2972. The intent of the current information provided in this packet is to show that the city of Hillsboro can provide the current service at an affordable cost to the townships. The figures provided were gathered by the IAFF from the city of Hillsboro and should be considered accurate."

SEAMAN – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a one-vehicle fatal motorcycle crash. The crash occurred on June 10, 2012 at approximately 3:29 p.m. on S.R. 247 just south of Mile Post 21, in Scott Township, Adams County.
