Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings is recommending to the Hillsboro City Council that the city contract with the Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District at $600,000 per year for three years, with the option to extend for one year.
    
    Hastings said that the agreement would save the city an estimated $1,540,000, "compared to continuing operation of the fire department with an estimated $899,648 deficit and a capital costs/benefits/administration (CBA) deficit of $450,000," for a total deficit of $1,348,648.

The theme "Summer of Love" had a resemblance to Woodstock Saturday afternoon as thunderstorms forced some last-minute changes to the grand opening celebration of the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure, but cyclists and organizers did not let the rain dampen their spirits or enthusiasm.

    With the roar of a hundred engines, the 31st annual KAMP Dovetail jumped into gear Monday, and the roads through Rocky Fork Lake State Park were transformed into Bike Week at Sturgis.

    The annual weeklong Kids And Motivated People (KAMP) gives children and young adults with developmental disabilities the opportunity to camp out and to participate in summertime activities such as fishing, horseback riding and swimming.

    With this year's "Bike Week" theme, area biker groups revved up their Harleys to show their support.

Members of the Highland County community commemorated the 200th anniversary of the declaration of the War of 1812 on Monday, at the Veterans Memorial outside the Highland County Courthouse.

Today, as we commend their deeds, we also bear a heavy burden of responsibility to ensure that their sacrifices will not have been in vain."
