Patrolling continues on state highway system

Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation – District 9 will continue to patrol and treat the state highway system during the evening and late-night hours as a winter storm progresses through the state.
Currently, routes in Adams, Brown, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Scioto counties are clear and wet; however, ice may form quickly as the temperature drops throughout the evening. In addition to the potential for ice, light rain is likely to change to freezing rain, and snow is forecasted during the evening hours.
Although ODOT crews will continue patrolling and treating routes throughout the district as needed, motorists are reminded of the following safe driving tips:
• Maintain a safe following distance behind other vehicles: Remember to drive well below the posted speed limit and leave plenty of room between your car and the car in front of you.
• Allow additional travel time and proceed with caution: The faster you drive, the longer it takes to stop, so brake early, brake slowly and brake correctly.
• Be prepared and stay alert: Visibility will be limited, so stay attentive and know what’s going on around you.
In addition to these driver safety tips, motorists are asked to give ODOT crews room to work. A snowplow operator’s field of vision is restricted, and they can’t always see other drivers on the roads. It is important that motorists keep their distance and watch for sudden stops.
