Sixty-two graduates of Southern State Community College’s Associate Degree Nursing program were recognized during a recent pinning ceremony at the college’s Patriot Center on Central Campus in Hillsboro. Graduates Sherry Bennington and Kristy Mason opened the evening ceremony with a recitation of the nurse’s prayer, followed by the welcome and introductions by graduate Sarica Lillie.

In May, during National Teachers' Appreciation Week, students schoolwide at Southern Hills Career & Technical Center recognized their teaching staff and showed their appreciation for all that their hard-working teachers do. The Student Government Association (SGA) organized the student-led activities, and they gave some special attention to three teachers who will be retiring for their service and dedication to SHCTC.

Winners have been announced in the 2009-10 writing contest which was open to current Southern State Community College students. Coordinator Bob Headley, SSCC professor of English, said the contest was conducted with a blind-judging format. Judges for the contest included Rainee Angles, Luann Edwards, Ken Holliday, Cathy LaParl, Angel Lemke, Annie Rankin and Jeff Wallace.

The Whiteoak Wildcat basketball camp was held June 1-4 for three hours each day, in the Whiteoak High School gymnasium.
