Lynchburg-Clay Elementary has announced the honor roll for the 2nd nine weeks of the 2011-12 school year.

A reduced touring version of “Porgy and Bess” will be presented by the Cincinnati Opera 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

The following Highland County residents, listed by community, have been named to the Fall 2011 Dean’s List at Chatfield College in St. Martin.

The Fairfield FFA recently placed first in the sub-district parliamentary procedure contest held at Whiteoak High School.

The Hillsboro Public Library has a new display going on in January. Mr. Daniel Benkiel has his collection of stamps and postcards displayed for the public to see. Benkiel has a wide variety of stamps and postcards from all over. Come check them out, maybe you'll find one that you have.

Fairfield Local Schools participated in the Straight-A Reds Tickets Program along with hundreds of other schools.

State Senator David Daniels, R-Greenfield, hosted students from Huntington High School in Chillicothe. The high school seniors made the trip to Columbus as part of their American government course.

The annual Area High School Art Showcase open house will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, in the Appalachian Gateway Center on Southern State Community College’s South Campus, 12681 U.S. Route 62, Fincastle. The gallery will open at 6 p.m. with refreshments and the awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Southern State Community College has released its president’s and dean’s lists for academic excellence for Fall Quarter 2011. To be eligible for the president’s list, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average while carrying a minimum of 12 academic credit hours. Those who achieve the dean’s list are full-time students who have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0.

Access and Success for Adults (ASA) offers free classes using the “Your Place” for the Adult Learner curriculum. Class location is at the Adams/Brown Community Action Program’s (ABCAP) Building in Georgetown.

Buckskin Elementary School fifth-graders from Mrs. Milnes' science class recently learned about energy transfer through conduction and radiation during a chocolate chip melting lab.

Lindsey Jordan was recently named to the Autumn Quarter 2011 Dean's List at The Ohio State University.
