On Monday and Tuesday, the Fairfield Lions split Southern Hills Athletic Conference games against the Manchester Greyhounds and the Fayetteville Rockets, as they lost to Manchester and defeated the Rockets. 

Monday (April 29) the Fairfield Lady Lions took a big step forward in their pursuit of an eighth consecutive Southern Hills Athletic Conference championship, as they traveled to Manchester High School to play the Manchester Lady Greyhounds and won by a 12-8 score. 

Taking the diamond on Saturday (April 27), the Fairfield Lions earned a run-rule victory over the visiting Clinton-Massie Falcons by a 15-5 score. 

Fairfield FFA member Carly Sanders recently competed in the Ohio FFA State General Livestock Judging Finals in Columbus and won the state contest.

Thursday saw the Fairfield Lions earn the regular-season sweep of rival Whiteoak in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play, using a five-run second inning to set the pace for the remainder of the game, winning by an 8-2 score at Fairfield High School. 

Following a week that saw the Fairfield Lady Lions outscore their opponents 53-1 and belt 18 extra-base hits, including eight home runs in four consecutive victories, the Lady Lions showed their versatility by using the bunt, aggressive base running, stringing together single after single en route to another win. 

The Southeast District of the OHSAA released the 2024 softball tournament brackets Sunday afternoon.

It was another beautiful day for softball, as the Fairfield Lady Lions traveled to Ripley Middle School on the banks of the Ohio River in Aberdeen to play their Southern Hills Athletic Conference opponent, the Ripley Lady Blue Jays. The Lady Lions’ high-powered offense continued in high gear Tuesday afternoon as they routed the Ripley Lady Blue Jays (1-12, 1-7 SHAC), 26-5, pounding out 23 hits. 

The Fairfield Lions earned a dominant victory in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference Tuesday night by defeating the host Ripley Blue Jays 17-0 in five innings. 

Hillsboro High School’s track and field program hosted an invitational Friday, April 19, with 13 different high schools — including four from Highland County — represented.

The Fairfield Lady Lions scored a combined 32 runs Thursday and Friday while holding their opponents scoreless, winning by a 16-0 score against both Eastern and Green.

The Fairfield Lions suffered their second Southern Hills Athletic Conference loss of the season on Thursday (April 18), with the Lions losing on the road to the Eastern Warriors in Sardinia by a 3-1 score.

The Fairfield Lady Lions kicked off the week with two consecutive Southern Hills Athletic Conference wins, defeating North Adams on the road, 11-1, then returning home to defeat Ripley, 10-0.
